Saregama has launched an updated version of its Carvaan music system, which came preloaded with old hindi Bollywood and even classical music. The product was first introduced in the market in 2017 and surprisingly went on to become a successful product for the music house.

The RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group company sold 95,000 units of the device in three months to September, according to the company’s investor presentation. Brokerage Kotak Securities estimates that it will sell more than two million of these in the next three years.

And now the new version called, Carvaan Premium gets advanced features, something that’ll appeal to the youth as well as older consumers.

The device was launched in two variants: at Rs 6,490 and Rs 6,990 and the company lowered prices after the GST rates were cut. It also came out with a smaller variant called Carvaan Mini last month, priced at Rs 2,490, with 251 songs preloaded.

The latest edition of Carvaan is priced at Rs 7,390. So, what’s new with the Carvaan Premium? The company claims that with the mesh design of the speaker unit, the audio output gets better quality.

In terms of modern features, users can control/access music on Carvaan Premium from a mobile app for Android or iOS. Users can even create playlists for the device to play. We’re not sure about all the features available to the user from this app.

Talking about content, you get 50-plus new stations, with a focus on music from actors like Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor among others. It always had FM Radio, but with demand, the company has added AM Radio to the Carvaan Premium now. There’s an aux-in port which lets you play music from mobile or PC on the Carvaan Premium. We would have liked the feature to work the other way around.

Finally, the company claims that with a rechargeable battery on board, the new variant will run up to 5 hours on a single charge. This isn’t a big upgrade from what we saw last year, but hopefully the playback time sees an increase.

With the festive season around the corner, Carvaan Premium could work as an effective gift for people. If pricing of the newer model is an issue then you can still go for the basic version, which starts from Rs 5,990.
