Huawei on Tuesday launched the P30 and P30 Pro series in India which offers a slew of cameras at the back (four, to be precise), high-end processor with up to 8GB RAM and 512GB storage option.

The phone has been priced at Rs 71,990, competing against likes of Samsung Galaxy S10 and even last year’s Google Pixel 3 series, purely because of all the talk about its camera. The latest flagship phone will be available from 16 April onwards.

In addition to the P30 Pro, Huawei also announced the P30 Lite for the Indian market which has been priced at Rs 19,990 for the 4GB + 128GB storage variant. The lite model will go on sale from 25 April in the country.

Here’s a look at the P30 Lite and P30 Pro and what it offers being a flagship product.

The P30 Pro sports 6.4-inch curved OLED 2380x1080 pixels display. These are powered by the company in-house Kirin 980 chipset, paired with 8GB RAM, and offering storage up to 256GB, which is further expandable.

The P30 Pro gets a 4,200mAh unit, making it heavier and taller as well than the regular P30 variant, which hasn’t been launched in India.

The P30 Pro, like Huawei’s Mate series gets wireless charging and even lets you charge other devices wirelessly.

Huawei claims the P30 series is running on the latest EMUi version based on Android Pie, something we first came across on the Mate series earlier this year.

But the phone matters, purely because of it’s offering on the imaging front. We’re talking about four rear cameras, at a time when Samsung manages to pack its Galaxy S10 Plus with three back at the back, and Google somehow managing to do an impressive job with just a single sensor.

As you can see here, the P30 Pro comes with four sensors, which includes the three given here and an additional time of flight (ToF) sensor. The sensors 40-megapixel, 20-megapixel ultra-wide and 8-megapixel gets aperture settings of f/1.6, f/2.2 and f/3.4 respectively, with the first and third sensor getting optical image stabilisation.

Probably for the first time, a smartphone’s camera supports up to 50x zoom, as claimed by the company.

Instead of a pop-up camera on the front, Huawei is content with using a water drop notch and packing a 32-megapixel shooter for selfies.

From whatever Huawei has to offer with the P30 series, it’s hard to deny it is a premium product, but will consumers pick this over a Samsung, Google or even Apple for that matter? The pricing is competitive, at least for the features on offer but the brand has a long way before matching up to established flagship giants in the market, something that even Google has found hard to break into.

With regards to the P30 Lite, considering its price, the features are heavily toned down. It gets a 6.1-inch Full-HD+ screen, powered by Kirin 710 processor with 4/6GB RAM and storage up to 128GB. This one gets three rear cameras; 24 megapixel, 8 megapixel and 2 megapixel with aperture f/1.8 and f/2.4 respectively. And finally, it is loaded with a 3340 mAh battery.
