Faulty parts are a rare occurrence with Apple products, but recent complaints raised by consumers indicate they aren’t being shipped out with proper quality checks, which is likely to be matter of concern for Tim Cook and co.

According to one user’s post on Reddit, “the speakers are randomly crackling on the new MacBook Pro 2018” and he’s reached out to the forum asking if others have found similar issues. Unfortunately for Apple, this is not an isolated complaint.

Some other users have said the speaker with the issue is most apparent when being used along with apps like Apple Music or iTunes. Both of which are Apple’s go-to music platforms. Other user complaints are:

Hello. A few days ago I got the new MacBook Pro 2018 15-in version. I’ve noticed since yesterday that my MacBook Pro speakers were crackling randomly. I’m not sure if since this is a new release that there are bugs in the software or if it’s an actual defect.

I was playing audio in iTunes and maybe about 15 minutes in it made this weird metallic scratching sound. I called Apple Support and they think its a hardware issue.

While some users have said this could be due to faulty audio drivers or fault in Apple’s T2 chip being, but Apple is yet to comment on the matter. It is possible that the company might reach out to the individual MacBook owners, something it had done with iPhone users during the battery fiasco earlier this year.

Apple has come a long way from being known for its quality checks, which were few and far between during the Steve Jobs days.

What’ll worry Apple is, it’s not only the MacBooks but even iPhones that have started showing up in the quality department recently. Faulty speakers, phones that easily bend and screens that aren’t the most robust are some that have been widely reported.

Fair to say that both these products come at a premium and it’s up to Apple to make sure that the quality lives up to the prices they command.
