Triumph Motorcycle might be a British brand at heart, but with Vimal Sumbly at the helm of affairs in India, the brand is doing its best at localising.

Which is why the launch of the new Street Triple S is big for the brand as well as motorcycle enthusiasts in the country. Now we have a 765-cc bike, that has an engine developed in Daytona, and is still priced under Rs 10 lakh (Rs 8.5 lakh ex-showroom to be precise).

All this has been possible because the Street Triple S will be assembled in India, in a plant in Manesar. More bikes will be locally assembled in the years to come, but for now Street Triple S is a feisty start for the brand.

The Street Triple S packs a powerful 765-cc engine, mated with 6-speed transmission and ABS available by default.

The improved engine delivers more power and torque, 113 PS and 73 Nm respectively. This is 30% more than what the Street Triple had to offer before this.

For brakes, Triumph has opted for 310-mm twin disc on the front, and 220-mm single disc at the back. The 17-inch Diablo Pirelli tyres should be ideal for the speed that the Street Triple S is capable of touching.

As India misses out on the Street Triple R and RS for now, you’ll have to content with a reflective display which at this price point is clearly avoidable. Having said that, with a 17-litre fuel tank, one can hope to ride on a long haul, without stopping over for a fuel break.

The overall kerb weight of 166 Kg might feel a lot less than what a powerful bike should offer, but Triumph claims that the lightweight nature adds to the riding dynamics of the bike, aiding faster speeds.

Triumph already has a slew of bikes in this price range, but the promise of ‘make in India’ could hold them in a good stead.
