Mercedes-Benz has the largest portfolio of cars in India (even bigger than Maruti Suzuki) and it aims to keep that number up in 2018 as well.

This year’s Auto Expo is a perfect platform to witness what the Daimler AG-owned company has in store for the Indian market, and one of the biggest attractions at the Auto Expo is going to be Mercedes-Benz’ electric concept vehicle dubbed the Concept EQ.

The Mercedes Concept EQ gives us an insight on how electric cars are going to look in the future. The EQ comes with a very sporty SUV coupe design and is powered by a twin electric motor powertrain that is capable of delivering an output of 402bhp of maximum power and 499 Nm of max. torque all thanks to a 300kW engine.

It is capable of delivering maximum range of 500 kilometers and comes with an all-wheel drive system.

Other additional features include concealed windscreen wipers and also there are cameras instead of exterior mirrors. Might sound weird but the car doesn’t come with any conventional door handles. The insides look even more interesting with an huge instrument panel and a floating wide-screen display. The driver can also use gestures to operate the automatic climate control and the infotainment system.

The car is touted to be launched after 2020.

Auto Expo 2018 is the biggest expo in India for all car and bike makers to showcase their products. This is the 14th edition of the Auto expo where 24 launches will take place. The entire Volkswagen Group – Skoda, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, Ducati, MAN and Scania – has pulled out of the Expo this year.

New entrants lining up their vehicles are Kia Motors and BMW Motorrad. Harley Davidson, Triumph, Royal Enfield and even Bajaj will not be present. With India’s growing focus on electric vehicles, expect major brands and small start-ups to showcase their products in the segment
