Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) is recalling 56,194 units of its three scooter models – Aviator, Activa 125 and Grazia – to rectify the issue of excessive hardness in a bolt mounted in the front fork.

The recall will cover units of the three models manufactured from 7 February, 2018 to 16 March, 2018, the company said in a statement.

The company has identified a suspected quality issue of excessive hardness in “Bolt flange 10X42” mounted in the front fork of 56,194 units of these models, HMSI said.

HMSI through its dealers will directly notify affected customers via call or e-mail or SMS for inspection of their vehicle, the company said.

"Honda, as a precautionary measure, will voluntarily inspect these models... the company will replace the suspected part, if required, on free of cost basis irrespective to the affected vehicles warranty status," it added.

Honda Activa is one of the popular two-wheelers that sells in the country. It really helps that the issue reported involves scooters that were manufactured recently, enabling owners to get the issue fixed at the earliest.

The two-wheeler division of the Japanese brand has made a slew of announcements at the Auto Expo 2018. They’ve also updated the Activa, to Activa 5G which still carries the same 125-cc engine unit.

The new version Activa has been launched with the sticker price of Rs 52,460 and gets LED headlamps and digi-analog instrument cluster among others. This one also supports BS-IV emission standards, which has become mandatory for all vehicles in the country.

Honda’s bike entity also played its part recently, by launching the 160-cc X-Blade and the CBR250R racing bike as well. Both these bikes have a price tag of Rs 78,500 and Rs 1.63 lakh respectively. Scooters don’t usually go through the recall-drill but it’s better for Honda to be safe than sorry.
