Hero is making its way back into the premium bike segment, and their first effort comes with the Xtreme 200R. The bike will be launched in a few months from now, but will be part of Hero’s line up at the Auto Expo, which starts in a week’s time from now.

So, what does the Hero Xtreme 200R offer and will it be a match for the existing range of 200cc bikes from Bajaj, TVS and Yamaha?

Hero claims to have worked extensively on the design and the make of the Xtreme 200R, but to the naked eye, this still looks like a newly-dressed Xtreme.

The bike’s finishing is a mix of metal and plastic, which, while effective, falls short in the looks department when compared with the likes of Suzuki Gixxer.

Hero has said that the new 200-cc unit can offer 18.4PS of power and 17.1NM of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed transmission. Hero has fitted the Xtreme 200R with 17-inch Ceat radial tyres, with disc brakes on both the front and the rear.

It’s 2018 and we’re pleased that Hero is eyeing this segment with a more serious approach in terms of safety. You’ll be getting a 276mm front disc and 220mm caliper at the back.

Hero is offering single channel anti-lock braking system (ABS) as an option, which is likely to cost you more than the standard version.

All said and done, Hero knows that the 200cc segment is a different ball game, compared to its conquered entry-level territory. The bike doesn’t really stand out for its part, and it’s quite clear that Hero is going safe with the looks of the Xtreme 200R and focusing more on the efficiency.

Which is why it’s essential that Hero manages to be aggressive with its pricing, and cater to buyers who want a 200cc bike but do not have the budget to go for Bajaj, TVS or Yamaha.
