New Zealand pace spearhead Trent Boult became the first New Zealand bowler to take a World Cup hat-trick on Saturday, 29 June against Australia at Lord’s.

In the final over of the Australian innings, Boult dismissed Usman Khawaja (88), Mitchell Starc (0) and Jason Behrendorff (0).

Thus, he became the second bowler after India’s Mohammad Shami to take a hat-trick in this edition of the World Cup.

Earlier in the game, Australia won the toss and opted to bat first. Aaron Finch (8), David Warner (16) were dismissed early by the the Kiwi bowlers.

Steve Smith (5) and Marcus Stoinis (21) also fell early when they were expected to bail them out of trouble in the middle-overs.

Alex Carey (71) and Usman Khawaja (88) then joined hands to stitch a 107-run stand. With the team score on 199, Carey was dismissed by Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson which again took the initialtive away from the Aussies.

Coming into bowl the final over, Boult then was then at his best dismissing Khawaja and clearing the Australia tail off successive deliveries giving away just two runs.
