India’s top women’s golfer Sharmila Nicollet is just 24 but she’s already seen the highs and lows of a demanding career in the sport.

A national level swimming champ in her younger days, Sharmila picked up a golf club at the age of 11 and never looked back. She represented India in the Doha Asian Games in 2006, turned pro at the age of 18 in 2009 and then bagged her first full card on the Ladies European Tour in 2012.

Only the second Indian ever to play among Europe’s elite, Sharmila was however hit by injuries just at her career reached a new high.

Since then, the 24-year-old has struggled on tour, but she’s now back and fighting to compete among the best. The Quint caught up with the Indian ace while she was playing an event on the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour at the Delhi Golf Club.
