History Has Been Created!

Five years after winning his last Wimbledon title, Roger Federer is now the Champion for a record eighth time. Marin Cilic has been beaten 6-3 6-1 6-4.

No other male player in history has won more singles titles at SW19 than this 35-year-old Swiss.

I guess it is just belief. That I can achieve such heights. I wasn’t sure if I would ever be here again in another final, after last year. I always believed I could come back and do it again. If you believe you can go really far in your life. I think I did that. I am happy I did and I am happy I am here today, winning my eighth.

This is also Federer's record 19th Grand Slam singles title.

Federer's last Wimbledon win came in 2012. He then lost to Novak Djokovic in both the 2014 and '15 finals. His first Wimbledon title came in 2003, and he won the next four after that. Cilic won the 2014 U.S. Open after beating Federer in the semifinals, his first win over the Swiss player.

Trailing 15-40 on his own serve in the seventh game of the third set, Cilic’s forehand abandons him. Ball goes right into the net and Federer has the one break he can cruise home with.
