Two-time World Championship bronze medallist and ninth seed at Rio, PV Sindhu thrashed Laura Sarosi of Hungary 21-8, 21-9 in the women’s singles competition.

The match lasted just 27 minutes.

In the first set, the 21-year-old Indian initially took a strong lead of 8-1. After the mid-set break, Sindhu’s domination continued as she clinched it 21-8 in 13 minutes.

In the second set, the Hungarian initially played well before the Indian managed a 11-6 lead at the break.

Sindhu then took six points on the trot building a strong 17-6 lead before conceding two points but established her supremacy to bag the game 21-9 in 14 minutes.

She will play against Glasgow Commonwealth Games champion Li Michelle of Canada on 14 August to complete the preliminary group matches.
