Ahead of the Super Four match between Indian and Pakistan, former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar was invited to an Indian news channel for the pre-match show. But what ensued was a bit of a laugh riot, because the anchor’s way of asking the question didn’t amuse the Pakistan pacer and he let her know that.
The ABP news anchor started by talking about how team India seemed to have taken the second phase of the Swachh Bharat Mission too seriously, because of the way they ‘cleaned’ Pakistan out in the group stage match.
Akhtar replied back saying, “I don’t know what your name is, I respect you but I will answer you if you'd ask the questions more respectfully. Ask me about cricket, and I’ll give you answers about cricket.”
While Akhtar obviously didn’t seem amused with the situation, Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir – who was also on the show along with former India cricketer Sandeep Patil – could be seen smiling.
Twitter Backs Shoaib
As the clip spread on the internet, a majority of Twitter users seem to be on Shoaib Akhtar’s side, and backed the former cricketer’s response.
Pakistan were no match for India in the Asia Cup, losing both the clashes by big margins. First, Rohit Sharma-led India won the group stage match by 8 wickets, and then registered their biggest-ever ODI win over Pakistan in the Super Four match stage, defeating them by 9 wickets.
After losing to Bangladesh in the semi-final of sorts, Pakistan were knocked out of the Asia Cup on Wednesday.
