Rohit Sharma and his wife Ritika Sajdeh have welcomed their first child with Ritika giving birth to a baby girl on Sunday, 30 December, the BCCI confirmed in an official statement.

The cricketer, currently in Australia, left for Mumbai on Sunday to join his wife and will miss the fourth and final Test in Sydney starting 3 January. He will join the ODI squad on the 8th of January ahead of the limited-overs series that starts on the 12th.

No replacement for Rohit has been named with India already touring with a few extra members in their Test squad.

Ritika’s cousin Seema Khan, who’s also Sohail Khan’s wife, had earlier posted an Instagram story captioned ‘baby girl’ and ‘masis again’ with a picture of her and Ritika, setting off celebrations among the ‘Ro-hitman’ fans.

Sharma could not be present beside his wife to witness the birth of his first child as he was part of the Indian team that won a historic Test match in Melbourne on Sunday.

He, however, had recently shared his excitement about the impending addition to his family in an interview with Michael Clarke. "I cannot wait to be a father; it is going to be a game changing moment in our lives. I am eagerly awaiting the moment of becoming a father. It will be a moment to change our life," Rohit had said.

It was double celebrations for Rohit Sharma on Sunday as he was also part of the Indian team that beat Australia by 137 runs to win the third Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

World No. 1-ranked India has now taken a 2-1 lead in the four-match series and retained the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

The fourth and final test starts in Sydney on Jan. 3.
