‘Sindhu Makes India Proud’: PM Modi After World Championships Gold

Here’s a look at how Twitter reacted to PV Sindhu’s historic achievement.

PV Sindhu on Sunday, 25 August, became the first Indian to win the badminton World Championships’ gold by beating Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in a one-sided final in Switzerland’s Basel.

Sindhu won 21-7 21-7 in a summit clash that lasted just 38 minutes.

It was Sindhu's fifth World Championship medal – the highest for a woman singles player, a joint achievement with former Olympics and world champion Zhang Ning of China – to go with the two successive silvers and a couple of bronze medals.

Minutes after the historic win, PM Modi tweeted his congratulations.

The stupendously talented @Pvsindhu1 makes India proud again!

Congratulations to her for winning the Gold at the BWF World Championships. The passion and dedication with which she’s pursued badminton is inspiring.

Sindhu has also won an Olympic silver in 2016 Rio Games, a silver at Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, an Asian Games silver at Jakarta and the BWF World Tour Finals last year.
