Dale Steyn formally completed his homecoming for Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday when he was named in the playing XI against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens.
As RCB skipper Virat Kohli said Dale Steyn is back with RCB after 9 long years. During his earlier stint with RCB, Steyn played 28 games between 2008 to 2010, picking up 27 wickets before moving to Deccan Chargers in 2011.
The 35-year old is in the Bangalore side as a replacement for injured Australian pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile.
This will be Steyn’s first IPL appearance in three years. He last featured for Gujarat Lions in IPL 2016. The South African seamer was then forced to pull out of the 2017 IPL auction because of a career-threatening shoulder injury. He later went unsold in the 2018 and 2019 auctions.
As the news of Dale Steyn’s selection made it’s way to Twitter, the social media was abuzz welcoming the South African legend.
RCB who have had a disastrous season will be looking to pick two points at Eden Gardens against the sixth place Kolkata Knight Riders.
In eight games this season, RCB have won only one game. The fans have taken to social media to express their disappointment and frustration over the franchise’s poor display.
Steyn making a comeback has sure lighted up the camp and even the fans did not shy back and expressed their excitement with the veteran RCB pacer making a comeback.
