The internet was abuzz with congratulatory messages for the Indian cricket team as they registered a 203-run win over South Africa in the Test series opener at Vizag on Sunday, 6 October.
South Africa – chasing 395 – were bowled out for 191 (63.5 overs) as Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja (4-87) took nine wickets between them.
Shami, who didn’t picked up any wickets in the first innings, finished with a 5-35 in 10.5 overs of the second innings.
India had set an improbable target after declaring their second innings at 323-4 with Rohit Sharma scoring 127. He had earlier scored 176 runs in the first innings, becoming the only Indian test player to score twin hundreds in his maiden Test as opener.
‘Congratulations to Team India for going up 1-0 in the series. Well played!” wrote Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar in a tweet.
Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh wrote, “Well done Shami for your brilliant spell.. 5 wicket hauls.. brilliant .. india won the first test congratulations”.
