New Zealand opener Martin Guptill was dismissed in one of the most bizzare fashion in the ongoing World Cup match against South Africa in Birmingham.
Triying to pull a delivery from Andile Phehlukwayo in the 15th over of the New Zealand chase, Guptill’s right foot touched the stumps which brought an unfortunate end to his innings.
Guptill’s innings thus came to a premature end on 35.
Television commentators immediately explained the circumstances on which Guptill was ruled out. They said that since he hit the wicket while completing the shot and was not looking for a run, he was adjudged out.
Had he hit the wicket while he was running he would have been ruled not out. New Zealand lost two more wickets of Ross Taylor (1) and Tom Latham (1) after Guptill’s dismissal.
Meanwhile, Twitter saw the funny side of his dismissal.
