That ICC World Cup 2019’s finale was full of drama is an understatement. England won the trophy, not by wickets, not by runs, but on the basis on having hit a higher number of boundaries in their match against New Zealand on Sunday, 14 July.

The exhilarating game ended in a tie as both teams scored 241 runs in their 50-over encounter and were also level at 15 runs each in the Super Over. But it was the ‘extra’ big hits that won hosts England their maiden World Cup title.

That being said, this edition of the quadrennial tournament witnessed several other moments that stole fans’ hearts. Here’s a look at some of the most memorable ones that were captured on camera.

1. Kohli Meets Octogenarian Fan

Charulata Patel, an 87-year-old fan of Indian cricket team, became an overnight internet sensation after she was seen cheering for the team during their match against Bangladesh in World Cup 2019.

Post the match, skipper Virat Kohli went to greet the fan, leaving us with an iconic moment.

2. New Zealand Console Brathwaite

Chasing 292 to win against New Zealand, Carlos Braithwaite’s 101 coming into bat at number six was not enough to take Windies over the line. Kiwi players, including captain Kane Williamson, consoled the all-rounder after they lost the game by just five runs.

Teammates at IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals, New Zealand’s Ish Sodhi and England’s Ben Stokes shared a hug after England defeated New Zealand in the World Cup final to be crowned World Champions.
