After receiving major backlash for his comments on the show Koffee With Karan, Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya issued an apology on Wednesday, 9 January, saying he may have “got a bit carried away with the nature of the show.”

The latest episode of the talk show hosted by director and producer Karan Johar – also featuring cricketer KL Rahul – has drawn a lot of criticism for Pandya’s misogynistic and sexist remarks.

On the show, Pandya boasted about hooking up with multiple women and spoke about how open he is with his parents, saying he had once told them after losing his virginity, "Aaj mai kar ke aaya (I have done it and come today)". When the host of the show asked him why he didn't ask women their names at clubs, Pandya responded by saying, “I like to watch and observe how they (women) move. I'm a little from the black side so I need to see how they move”.

All-rounder Pandya returned to the Indian squad from injury for the final two Tests of the four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, at Melbourne and Sydney.

The all-rounder, who had been out of action since September due to a back injury sustained at the Asia Cup, has stayed on in Australia for the three-match ODI series starting 12 January.
