With the second Grand Slam of the year, the French Open is entering its final stages. The heat of the matches is running high as favourites are vying to live up to their fan’s expectations.
However, the third round at Roland Garros was marked by a heartwarming moment after Nicolas Mahut’s four set loss to Argentina’s Leonardo Mayer.
Thirty-seven-year-old Mahut was teary eyed following his loss, in what is being dubbed as his last appearance at the clay court Grand Slam. His 7-year-old son rushed from the audience to hug and comfort Mahut, in a moment that was appreciated by everyone.
Twitter users were appreciative of the charming display of affection and described it as hitting them “right in the feels”. The crowd added to the emotional moment with a standing ovation.
Twitterati also said the moment showed that Mahut had “won at fatherhood”.
As Mahut and his son turned a loss into a beautifully sentimental moment on the court, Mahut’s opponent, Mayer, watched from the players technical area and applauded the duo. Twitterati also praised Mayer for his “human reaction”.
