United States goalkeeper Hope Solo has been the target of some ‘Zika’ teasing at the hands of Brazilian soccer fans at the ongoing Rio Olympics.
Solo made history with her 200th international appearance against France on Saturday, making her one of the greats in international soccer, among both men and women. However, this will not be the only highlight of Solo’s third Olympic games.
Solo was the recipient of some taunts by spectators during the soccer matches as every time she picked up the ball or took a penalty kick, the crowd would scream ‘ZIKA’ in unison.
Before leaving for the Rio games, Hope had repeatedly expressed her reluctance on social media over travelling to Rio de Janeiro due to the Zika risk, a cause for many athletes pulling out of the games.
Hope even said that she was taking precaution against the virus that causes microcephaly in newborn babies as she wishes to have children with husband Jerramy Stevens, a former NFL player.
Not just spectators, social media did not leave Hope alone either.
