For the second time in six years, The Blues asserted their dominance as they won the UEFA Europa League title after defeating Arsenal 4-1 in the capital city of Baku in Azerbaijan on Wednesday.
Chelsea’s victory also ensured that Maurizio Sarri got the first trophy of his managerial career. With this loss, Arsenal is set to miss the Champions League next season.
Twitter was abuzz after the match. While some users compared Arsenal’s defeat to that of Brazil in 2014 against Germany, the others appreciated the efforts put in by Sarri throughout the season.
Here are some of the reactions:
While Arsenal looked in control of the game in initial minutes, it was perhaps their horrid decision making that cost them the game.
While the scores were pretty even in the first-half, it was in the second half that Chelsea resorted to an attacking game-play and completely pushed Arsenal behind.
Speaking to media after the match Sarri said he was happy and lucky to be in Chelsea.
“You know very well that I love the Premier League, the level of the competition, I am lucky because I am in Chelsea, one of the best clubs in the Premier League, one of the best championships in the world. So in the moment I am happy but of course I want to know if the club is happy, if we can improve.” said Sarri.
