Dinesh Karthik Dropped for Australia ODIs & Twitter Isn’t Pleased

Young Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul have found a place in the 15-member squad for the five-match series.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has been dropped from the ODI team for the Australia series, BCCI announced on Friday, 15 February. Instead, young Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul have found a place in the 15-member squad for the five One Day Internationals, starting 2 March.

This series serves as the final ODI series that the Men in Blue will play before the all-important ICC World Cup in England this year. And Karthik seems to have missed the bus to a much younger Pant, who is considered to be the future of Indian cricket and heir apparent to Mahendra Singh Dhoni behind the stumps.

A majority of the Twitter users however did not seem pleased with the decision to drop Karthik. Here’s what they had to say.

Why are Indian selectors so dumb??

1 - KL Rahul is back. Why????
2 - Karthik removed despite doing the finishing role very nicely.
3 - No Bhuvneshwar when it was the ideal time to see whether he should be picked over Shami.
4 - Kaul picked on what basis? IPL?#INDvAUS

KL Rahul getting place in the team and Dinesh Karthik being dropped for the Australia's limited overs series, good that KL got place... But why they dropped Dinesh Karthik? Man is in brilliant form and you surely can't drop him when he has the ability to be the finsiher.

Don't understand why Dinesh Karthik was dropped. He was in a form like no others in team, still dropped. It's really hard to be Dinesh Karthik. Perhaps, they would realise and consider him for world cup. Let's hope it.
