Bajang Punia has won a gold in the 65 kg men’s wrestling match at the Asian Games 2018. Punia beat Japan’s Daichi Takatani.

A gold medallist from the 2018 Commonwealth Games earlier this year, Bajrang won all his bouts leading into the final by technical superiority, asserting his class in the 65kg category. The hashtag ‘Bajrang Punia’ started trending on Twitter in India.

The final against Daichi Takatani was a close-fought encounter but Bajrang managed to hold his lead throughout and close out the win with a 11-8 scoreline.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called it a “Memorable Victory.”

West Bengal CM, Mamta Banerjee, VK Singh and Virender Sehwag were among the first few people to congratulate the young wrestler on his Asiad win. BJP President, Amit Shah, also tweeted about the Wrestler’s win.
