2016 was a special year for Sakshi Malik but 2017 just added some glean of its own in the wrestling champ’s calendar. The Rio Olympics’ bronze medallist tied the knot with her wrestler fiance Satyawart Kadian on 2 April in her hometown Rohtak’s Nandal Bhawan.
The pair had gotten engaged in October last year, two months after Sakshi’s successful outing at the Olympics. While the star had chosen to remain tight-lipped about her impending marriage for a majority of last year, she did share some of her excitement with The Quint.
The marriage ceremony was attended by two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar, former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and senior Indian National Lok Dal leader Abhay Singh Chautala, among others.
Sakshi had ended India's painful wait for a medal at the Rio Olympic Games last year by clinching the bronze in the 58kg category, pulling off a sensational 8-5 victory over Aisuluu Tynybekova in the play-off bout. Kadian won a bronze medal at the 2010 Youth Olympics and clinched silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Many sportspersons took to Twitter to wish Sakshi on her big day:
Sakshi had herself shared pictures from her mehendi on Saturday:
