Djokovic Wins Maiden French Open

Novak Djokovic joined tennis greats on Sunday when he downed British second seed Andy Murray 3-6 6-1 6-2 6-4 to claim his maiden French Open title and hold all four grand slams at the same time.

The world number one recovered from a nervous start to impose his pace on Court Philippe Chatrier and clinch his 12th grand slam crown after three previous failures in a Roland Garros final.

“It’s a very special moment, possibly the biggest moment in my career,” the 29-year-old, who now has a 5-2 win-loss record against Murray in grand slam finals, said courtside.

‘Judgement Day’ for Sushil as HC Decides on Trials Today

Fighting for an Olympic ticket on the unfamiliar legal turf, Sushil Kumar’s glorious wrestling career may meet an unceremonious end when the Delhi High Court pronounces its verdict tomorrow on who gets to board the flight to Rio between him and Narsingh Yadav.

The Delhi High Court, in its last hearing on Thursday, gave clear indications that it was likely to give a judgement in favour of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) in the tiff over selection trials in the men’s 74kg freestyle category.

Problem is that the sports code is nowhere prescribing that trial is mandatory. It has given flexibility and autonomy to the organisation to decide (mode of selection). I do not find the statutory mandate which you are trying to read into it.

Vardy Wants to Join Arsenal, Says Giroud

France and Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud has fuelled speculation that Jamie Vardy is on his way to the Gunners by saying he has heard the Leicester City striker is keen to move.

“I have been told that Jamie wants to join us and it’s very good news for us,” the striker told Sky Sports after scoring twice in France’s 3-0 friendly win against Scotland on Saturday.

British media reported on Friday that Arsenal, runners-up to champions Leicester last season, had triggered a buy-out clause in Vardy’s contract with a bid of around 20 million pounds ($29.04 million).

Green Park, Motera Among 10 Worst Grounds for Kevin Pietersen

Dashing England batsman Kevin Pietersen named Kanpur’s Green Park and Ahmedabad’s Motera among the 10 worst stadiums where he has played cricket in all these years.

However he rated Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium as one of the 10 best venues that he has played cricket on.

It was at Wankhede in 2012, that Pietersen played a gem of an innings -- 186 on a turner that not only won England the Test but also changed the course of series. That century according to many is one of the finest by an overseas batsman on Indian soil.

Aamir Named in Pakistan Test Team for England

Convicted spot-fixer Muhammad Aamir has been selected in the Pakistan cricket team that will tour England for a four-Test series for the first time since the spot-fixing scandal broke in 2010.

However the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is still waiting for Aamir’s visa approval from the UK High Commission.

24-year-old Aamir has made an impressive comeback in shorter formats and ironically his probable return to Test cricket will happen in the same country where he was arrested for indulging in spot-fixing along with Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif. Chairman of selectors Inzamam ul Haq said that the board had given clearance to pick Aamir in the side as they had been told his visa would arrive on Monday.
