KKR Eliminated, SRH to Face Lions in Second Qualifier
Two time champions Kolkata Knight Riders’ campaign in Indian Premier League 9 ended after going down to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 22 runs in the eliminator on Wednesday.
Famed Hyderabad’s bowling line-up led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar with three wickets, proved too good for the KKR batsmen, who failed to put up a fight to finish at 140/8 in their 20 overs.
Chasing 163, KKR were off an identical start as Hyderabad losing in-form opener Robin Uthappa (11) cheaply before skipper Gautam Gambhir (28) and all-rounder Colin Munroe (16) took the team to 46/1 in the powerplay.

Sania, Paes, Bopanna Enter French Open Second Round
India’s tennis stars Sania Mirza, Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna got their French Open campaign off to a winning start as the trio won their respective women’s doubles and men’s doubles matches to enter the second round on Wednesday.
World No.1 women’s doubles pair of Sania and her Swiss partner Martina Hingis defeated the Russian pair of Darya Kasatkina and Alexandra Panova 7-6 (4), 6-2 in one hour and 31 minutes.
India’s Bopanna and his Romanian partner Florin Mergea outclassed Frenchmen Stephane Robert and Alexandre Sidorenko 6-2, 6-2 in a one-sided encounter in 56 minutes.
India’s Paes and his Polish partner Marcin Matkowski defeated Belarusian and Uzbekistani pair of Alexander Bury and Denis Istomin 7-6 (3), 7-6 (6) in one hour 46 minutes.

Shooter Heena Misses Out on Final Berth
Heena Sidhu shot well for a 384 out of 400 in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol qualification round but missed out on a final berth by a point on the concluding day of the Shooting (Rifle/Pistol) World Cup on Wednesday.
Heena finished 12th out of 104 shooters in the eventual standings but will be pleased at having shot a high score ahead of the all-important Olympics. The eighth finalist from Serbia, Bobana Velickovic who eventually won the gold, made it through with a score of 385 and had less inner 10s than Heena at Munich’s Olympic Shooting Centre.
Shweta Singh and Nivetha Paramanantham, the other Indians in the event shot scores of 378 and 377 to finish 47th and 52nd respectively.
