1. Delhi Daredevils Beat Mumbai Indians by 37 Runs

In a classic display of leg spin bowling, Imran Tahir and Amit Mishra bowled Delhi Daredevils to a 37-run win over Mumbai Indians in their IPL match at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Thursday.

Chasing a stiff 191-run target, Mumbai managed 153/9 as Delhi registered their first victory at the Kotla after nine consecutive losses.

Tahir took all his three wickets in one over dismissing Hardik Pandya, Ambati Rayudu and Mitchell McClenaghan to take the Purple Cap from Ashish Nehra.

Earlier, riding on a rollicking 154-run partnership between Shreyas Iyer and skipper Jean-Paul Duminy, Delhi posted an imposing 190/4.

Put into bat, the hosts overcame an early blow to see big fifties from Iyer (83) and Duminy (78 not out) and put on board the highest total of this season so far.

2. West Indies v England: Joe Root Century Puts Tourists in Charge

A sparkling hundred from Joe Root put England in position to push for victory in the second Test against West Indies.

Root hit 118 not out, his sixth Test century, as the tourists reached 373-6 in their first innings, leading West Indies by 74 with two days to go.

The Yorkshireman was well supported by Gary Ballance (77), who passed 50 for the eighth time in 10 Tests.

Captain Alastair Cook (76) was denied a first Test hundred since May 2013 while fellow opener Jonathan Trott made 59.

But the day belonged to Root, who continued his extraordinary run since he was dropped for the fifth Ashes Test in Sydney in January 2014.

The 24-year-old is now averaging 103.7 since his recall to the side and has passed 50 in each of his last six innings - equalling the England record.

3. Chennai Super Kings Worth Only Rs 5 lakh? BCCI Doesn’t Think So

The new dispensation of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is least impressed with troubled IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK), owned by former board president and India Cements Limited (ICL) vice-chairman and managing director N Srinivasan.

The franchise, which has been in the news for all the wrong reasons, “tried to hoodwink” the board by valuing itself at a paltry Rs 5 lakh.

Seeking the BCCI’s approval to transfer the shares of CSK Limited to a trust comprising three independent directors of ICL, the franchise submitted that it would pay five per cent of the sale price to the BCCI. That’s what Clause 10.4 of the franchise agreement says. In other words, the BCCI would stand to earn Rs 25,000 from the transfer.

A section of the BCCI is livid with the CSK management for “such a fraudulent valuation”. And they have a point.

4. Sarfaraz Khan Becomes Youngest Cricketer to Play in IPL History

The 17-year-old cricketer from Mumbai, Sarfaraz Khan on Wednesday created history by becoming the youngest player in Indian Premier League (IPL). Sarfaraz was named in the 20th match of the tournament in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s team against Chennai Super Kings at Bangalore.

Earlier this year in February, Sarfaraz was the youngest player ever to come in the IPL auction, when it was held in February in Bangalore. He was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 50 lakhs.

Sarfaraz beat the record of being the youngest IPL player earlier set by fast bowler Pradeep Sangwan, who had made his debut at the age of 17 years and 179 days. Unmukt Chand, who had led India to the Under-19 World Cup win in 2012 in Australia, had made his debut at the age of 18 years and 16 days.
