Six Indian women will be in competition at the Wrestling World Championships on Wednesday.
While Vinesh Phogat (53kg) and Seema Bisla (50kg) will be fighting it out for a bronze in the Repechage rounds, Sarita (57kg), Pooja Dhanda (59kg), Navjot Kaur (65kg) and Kiran (76kg) will have their preliminary and semi-finals on Wednesday.
Vinesh and Seema Fight For Bronze
Vinesh Phogat was pushed out of the title race by reigning champion Mayu Mukaida who beat her 7-0 but the Japanese later reached the final to help Vinesh stay in the medal hunt.
The Indian star will now have to beat three wrestlers in the repechage- Yuliia Khavaldzhy Blahinya from Ukraine, world number one Sarah Ann Hildebrandt and then Maria Prevolaraki from Greece to win her first Worlds medal.
In another Olympic category, Seema Bisla (50kg) lost her pre-quarterfinal 2-9 to three-time Olympic medallist Mariya Stadnik. Like Vinesh, she too remained in hunt for bronze and Olympic qualification as Stadnik reached the final.
Their Repechage bouts starts at 10:30 AM IST.
4 Wrestlers Start Prelims
Sarita (57kg), Pooja Dhanda (59kg), Navjot Kaur (65kg) and Kiran (76kg) will have their preliminary and semi-finals on Wednesday.
Pooja Dhanda, who became only the fourth Indian woman to win a medal at the Worlds last year, could not book a berth in the 57kg, which is an Olympic category and so will fight for her second medal in 59kg.
Her victor Sarita Mor will be taking the mat in the 57 kg event.
All matches will also start at 10:30AM IST.
