Power-Lifter Slams Govt After Funding Self for Asian Championship

Power-Lifter Arti Arun on Monday, 7 May spoke about the lack of support from the authorities, after winning a gold medal at the Asian Power-Lifting Championship in Hong Kong.

Arun, who is also a dental surgeon, told News Agency ANI that she felt let down as she hasn't been appreciated even after representing the country and winning a gold medal. Arti further said she had to personally fund herself to be able to achieve the feat in Hong Kong, further slamming the government about the lack of support.

“I felt let down, I represented India, haven’t been appreciated for it. I had spent around Rs 1,50,000 lakh from my earnings without any support from the government.”

She further asked how long can this be continued and that many power-lifters go unnoticed. , "How long can I continue to spend so much"? She also said, "so many power-lifters go unrecognised."

This is not the first time an athlete has complained about the lack of support. Divya Kakran, Asian Games bronze-medalist had earlier lashed out at the Delhi government for not extending any help to her before the games.
