Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Charitable Foundation received donations to the tune of Rs 20 lakh at ‘Cricket for Heroes’, an inaugural T20 fund-raiser. It was held at The Oval in London, last week.

India’s limited-overs captain, Dhoni, smashed the winning runs for his side Heroes XI against the Rest of the World XI.

The amount collected by Dhoni’s charitable foundation, will be handed over to the Indian Army to support the wounded and severely injured soldiers.

Following this inaugural fund-raiser match, Dhoni’s foundation has also partnered with The Help for Heroes foundation to replicate a series of similar charity matches in India.

On his return to India after the match, Dhoni told reporters:

The match was an excellent platform to support such a worthy cause. I feel honored to have been a part of it and look forward to supporting many more like these in the near future. The match also served as a good practice for the upcoming ODI series with South Africa.

In the match, the Andrew Strauss-led Heroes XI beat the ROW XI by four wickets.
