David Warner (67 off 38) and Jonny Bairstrow ( 80* off 43) helped Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 9 wickets, with 5 overs to spare, on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.
Batting first, KKR got off to a flier as Sunil Narine (25 off 8) smashed the bowlers all over the park. The wicket of Narine sucked the momentum out of KKR’s batting as none of their batsmen got going. Andre Russell (15 off 9), KKR’s go-to man too, couldn’t lift the visitors to a competitive total as Kolkata eventually finished with 159-8 at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing 160, Warner and Bairstrow looked in a hurry as SRH raced away to a massive 72 at the end of the Powerplay.
KKR too, didn’t help their cause as they dropped Bairstrow early in the innings. Despite losing Warner, SRH kept attacking and eventually chased down 160 with 5 overs to spare.
