Mumbai Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has sustained injury during a training session at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai ahead of the match with Kings XI Punjab on Wednesday, 10 April.

He was seen collapsing clutching his right thigh when he was working on the outfiled. The Mumbai Indians' skipper was in and lay prone for some time and the support staff and team players surrounded him, as reported by Hindustan Times.

He was helped by the team's physio Nitin Patel as he picked himself up. He walked slowly towards the dressing room, stopping and waiting in between due to pain. He was leaning at a hoarding around the boundary for support.

As per reports, the injury looked like a hamstring injury, which takes at least four to six weeks to recover. This gives enough time to the batsman to recover before the World Cup.

The Indian squad for the 2019 ICC World Cup will be announced on 15 April. The World Cup begins on 30 May.

Sharma was suffering from a hamstring injury in the last World Cup in 2015 too and had missed three matches.

Though it is not confirmed whether the MI skipper is resting in Wednesday’s match, his team will be playing Kings XI Punjab. The previous encounter between the two teams in Mohali had ended in a comprehensive eight-wicket win for Kings XI, but home conditions at the Wankhede Stadium are expected to favour MI.

MI go into the match high on confidence following successive victories over holders Chennai Super Kings and last edition's finalists Sunrisers Hyderabad.
