South African test captain Ab de Villiers sustained an elbow injury during his stint in Caribbean Premier League, which is likely to keep him out of action for six to eight weeks. His absence means that T-20 captain, Faf du Plessis will take over the reigns from him for the interim period.

Lanky speedster Morne Morkel too will be on sidelines, nursing a back injury. The fast bowler has had issues with his back in the past too. Wayne Parnell, another left arm seamer has been named as his replacement for the tour.

Parnell was rewarded for a strong 2015-16 domestic season, where he picked up 23 wickets in five first-class games at an average of 20.56.

The first test match will start on 19 August at Durban.
