Abhinav Bindra led the Indian contingent at the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil on Saturday morning, local time. Sania Mirza, Rohan Bopanna, and the Indian hockey team, among others, had to give it a miss as they all had matches to play on the morning of the opening ceremony.

Among the international stars, while Usain Bolt and Novak Djokovic missed the ceremony, Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal were the flag bearers for their countries.

Sania Mirza watched the ceremony on television and shared the enthusiasm of the contingent.

Rohan Bopanna too had to bow out of the opening ceremony due to an early matches.

The Indian hockey team, however, reportedly could not make it to the ceremony due to a reported lack of proper kits. However, CNN News18’s sports reporter in Rio, Digvijay Singh Deo tweeted the following:
