In the very first ball of his 9th over, the all-rounder got Nuwan Kulasekara to edge to the wicket keeper and in the very next ball snaffled ODI debutant PHT Kaushal for lbw.
At the other end, Kumar Sangakkara drew the curtain on his glittering career with an unlikely but hard-working performance.
Sangakkara, who came into the match with four hundreds from the last four matches, got out towards the end of the innings for 45 off 96 balls at a strike rate of 46.87.
Sri Lanka were ultimately all out for 133, as South Africa’s bowlers gave the team a great shot at making it to the World Cup semi finals.
