The Indian cricket team levelled their ongoing T20I series against Bangladesh with an emphatic win 8-wicket win at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium at Rajkot on Thursday. Skipper Rohit Sharma led from the front with the bat. He smashed 85 off 43 balls to help India chase down a total of 153 set by Bangladesh.

Washington Sundar was crucial in limiting the Bangladeshi batters. His spell alongside Yuzvendra Chahal choked the Bangladeshis, before they finished with 153. Sundar bowled his 4 overs for 1/25 - his first wicket in five matches.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Sundar spoke about Rohit Sharma’s match-winning knock and the importance of spinners in the shortest format of the game.

Importance of Spinners in T20 Cricket

On being asked about how spinners fit in the scope of T20 cricket, Sundar had a reasonable response to how spinners can impact a game in T20.

“Definitely spinners have a big role to play in the shortest form of cricket, because they take the pace of the ball. Sometimes pitches can also give assistance to the spinners as well,” said Sundar.

“It is all about knowing what to do and knowing where the batsman will look after hitting you. You will get hit badly in few games, but that happens in this format of the game. Spinners have a very big role in this format.”

‘The Bowling Unit Did a Good Job’

Sundar was proud of how the Indian bowlers responded to pressure from the Bangladeshi batters. The pitch at Rajkot was looking good for 180 runs, but the Indian bowling attack managed to restrict Bangladesh for just 153 runs.

Sundar said, "To be honest, wicket was very beautiful and the bounce and the carry was really good. We thought 180 was par. “

“We would have liked to get 180-190 if we had batted first, but to have restricted them for 153, I think we as a bowling unit did a very good job.”
