England Cricket Board has yet again come up with a new format and a new tournament called ‘The Hundred’.

As the name suggests, it will be a 100-ball competition, played among eight teams based in seven different cities (London has two teams). The tournament will take place in July-August 2020.

Unlike the IPL, ‘The Hundred’ is a draft rather than an auction. There will be no bidding wars, no ‘buying’ of players. In this format, teams will simply take turns to pick players. A random draw will decide who gets to pick first and the order that follows. Then, in the second round, the order of picks will be reserved.

Each team gets 100 seconds to make their pick. Salaries are pre-decided, and depend on how early a player is picked.

In the next season, each team gets to retain 10 players and will mutually agree the salary band with the those players.

  • Manchester Originals (Old Trafford)
  • Trent Rockets (Trent Bridge)
  • Southern Brave (Ageas Bowl)
  • Northern Superchargers (Leeds)
  • Welsh Fire (Cardiff)
  • Oval Invincibles (The Oval)
  • London Spirit (Lord's)
  • Birmingham Phoenix (Edgbaston)

The Hundred’s draft will take place on Sunday, 20 October in London.
