Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly on Wednesday, 23 October, officially took over as the new BCCI President, becoming only the second Indian captain to hold the most important post in Indian cricket.

The BCCI meeting where Ganguly was handed the reigns of the board from the CoA, was followed by a press conference where the 47-year-old addressed the media for the first time as the BCCI President.

It indeed was a special moment for ‘Dada’ but he made it even more special with an amazing gesture- Ganguly wore the same Indian Cricket Team blazer that he was given when he first became captain of the team in the year 2000.

On being asked about it, Ganguly replied, “I got it when I was captain of India so I decided I would wear it today, but I didn’t realise it that it was so loose.”

The former Indian skipper’s new role as the board’s boss will last just 9 months before he has to go into a Lodha Committee-recommended ‘cooling off period’. There is a lot to be achieved in the next few months specially as the board will now be run by administrators for the first time in almost 3 years, with the CoA’s time ending with the appointment of the new executives.
