It’s been more than two weeks since the controversial TV show with Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul went on air. Both players missed the entire Australia ODI series and are now also going to miss the tour of New Zealand.

The BCCI’s CoA is yet to come to an agreement over the quantum of punishment to be handed to the players, but one man who knows both quite well is now speaking out for them.

Rahul Dravid has coached KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya when they played for India A and he’s urging that there is a need to not overreact on this matter.

“It is not that players did not make mistakes in the past. It is not that mistakes will not be made in the future despite our best efforts to educate the youth. But let us not overreact please.”

Instead of urging for strict punishment, Dravid said he there is a need for the system to educate players, all of whom don’t come from the same background.

“Players come from different teams and their roles of responsibility need to be addressed. Issues will always be there and we have to educate and guide then. They should be told they can’t abuse the system.”

The former Indian skipper added that the players themselves also need to be more aware and learn from senior members of the dressing room.

“I learnt from watching seniors in Karnataka, from parents and coaches. They were my role models. No one sat me down and gave me a lecture. I observed and learnt. The best learning process happens in the dressing room from your seniors. But we should not over-react.”

The BCCI’s next Supreme Court hearing is slated for 25 January when the CoA has asked the court to appoint an Ombudsman for the board who can carry out the inquiry and decide on a proper reprimand for the two players’ comments on the TV show.
