Mumbai's captain Ajinkya Rahane has been declared unfit ahead the Super League phase of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, according to Cricinfo.
The news comes a big setback for the Mumbai side, who topped the Group C table in the league stage, winning five out of their six matches. But Rahane’s contribution with the bat was limited, scoring only 58 runs at an average of 9.67.
According to Ajit Agarkar, Mumbai's chairman of selectors, Rahane somehow managed through the group stage but he needed rest to recover
“He was carrying niggles even during the league phase, which he kind of pushed through when we were in a bit of trouble. But he would not be 100% (for Super League).”Ajit Agarkar, Mumbai’s chairman of selectors
Rahane's experience would have been crucial during the business end of the tournament.
Apart from Mumbai, Rahane’s IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals will also keep a close watch on the developments since Rahane will be leading the side in the upcoming edition of IPL.
The twelfth editon of IPL is all set to get underway from March 23. Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Royals will begin their campaign in Jaipur against Kings XI Punjab on March 25.
