India won the final one-day international against the West Indies by nine wickets and took the five-match series 3-1 on Thursday in Thiruvananthapuram.
After bowling out the West Indies for 104, India made 105/1 in 15 overs to record its second biggest win in terms of balls to spare, 211. The biggest was by 231 deliveries against Kenya in 2001.
Such was India's dominance that the game was over in a total of 46.4 overs, the shortest completed ODI featuring India. The previous spanned 48.1 overs against New Zealand in 2010.
India's chase didn't begin well as Shikhar Dhawan chopped on against Oshane Thomas on 6 in the second over.
Rohit Sharma (63 not out) and Kohli (33 not out) made good on their stupendous form through this series, grinding out the visitors' bowling attack with a 99-run partnership for the second wicket off 78 balls.
The win in the Thiruvananthapuram ODI would be India's second-biggest win wicket-wise against the Windies. The Indian team had defeated the Windies by a bigger margin on only one occasion in the past.
India's 3-1 series win would be their 8th consecutive bilateral ODI series win against the Windies; India haven't lost a series to the Windies since the home series in January 2007.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day MS Dhoni reached a special milestone when he took the field at the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. He became only the 2nd cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar to play 200 international matches in India.
With this win, India recorded their sixth consecutive home-series win. The Indian team hasn't lost an ODI series at home since October 2016.
Unperturbed by the fall of Dhawan's wicket, Rohit Sharma played sensibly to guide India home comfortably. In the process, Rohit also completed his 37th half-century. Sharma reached his half-century off 45 balls, hitting five fours and four sixes.
When on 33, Sharma completed 1000 runs in ODIs in 2018. It was the second consecutive year in which he had aggregated more than 1000 runs in ODIs in a year.
He also reached a landmark of hitting 200 sixes in ODI cricket in the match.
