Bumrah, Vihari, Ishant: Records Broken on Day 2 of Kingston Test

Jasprit Bumrah took 6 for 16 while Hanuma Vihari scored his maiden Test century in eventful day at Sabina Park.

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah took 6 for 16 and became only the third Indian bowler to get a Test hat-trick as the visitors gained total control of the second Test against West Indies on Saturday, 31 August.

India extended its overnight score to 416 all out, with Hanuma Vihari scoring his maiden Test century, before reducing the hosts to 87-7 at stumps on Day 2, still 329 runs behind.

Bumrah dismissed Darren Bravo (4), Shamarh Brooks (0) and Roston Chase (0) in successive balls in the ninth over of West Indies' first innings. Bumrah's hat-trick came after a successful lbw review against Chase.

Jasprit Bumrah

• Jasprit Bumrah’s 6/16 are his career-best first-class figures. His previous best in Tests were 6 for 33 against Australia at Melbourne in December 2018.
  
• For the first time in Tests, he has recorded five-wicket hauls in successive innings – 5 for 7 at North Sound and 6 for 16 at Kingston.
  
• Of his 5 five-wicket hauls, two have been accomplished against the West Indies and one each against Australia, South Africa and England.
  
• Bumrah, with three wickets (Bravo, Brooks and Chase) off successive balls, has become the third Indian bowler (after Harbhajan Singh vs Australia at Kolkata in 2000-01 and Irfan Pathan vs Pakistan at Karachi in 2005-06) to accomplish a hat-trick in Tests.
  
• Bumrah is the third bowler to produce a hat-trick in the Caribbean, joining West Indian Jermaine Lawson vs Australia at Bridgetown in 2002-03 and England's Matthew Hoggard vs West Indies at Bridgetown in 2003-04.
  
• Bumrah is the second Asian bowler after Sri Lanka's Nuwan Zoysa (vs Zimbabwe at Harare in 1999-2000) to produce a hat-trick in Tests outside the subcontinent.

Vihari’s 111 & Ishant’s 57

• Hanuma Vihari's 225-ball 111 is his career-best score in Tests and marked his maiden century in the format.
  
• He has registered successive fifty-plus innings for the first time – 93 at North Sound and 111 at Kingston – both against the West Indies. His only other fifty (56) was on Test debut against England at The Oval in September 2018.
  
• Ishant Sharma (57) posted his maiden Test fifty at Kingston on Saturday, eclipsing the 31 not out vs Sri Lanka at Galle in July 2010. He had also posted 31 vs Australia at Mohali in October 2010.

• Ishant's aforesaid innings is his second highest first-class score behind the 66 off 141 balls for Sussex vs Leicestershire at Leicester in April 2018.
  
• Vihari and Ishant were involved in an eighth-wicket partnership of 112 – India's highest for this wicket-position in Tests at Kingston – their second highest for this wicket-position against the West Indies behind the 120 (unbroken) between Rahul Dravid and Sarandeep Singh at Georgetown in April 2002. Of the four century stands for the eighth wicket at Kingston, two have been recorded by Indian pairs. Yashpal Sharma and Balwinder Sandhu had put on 107 in February 1983.

Jason Holder’s All-Round Show

• In three consecutive Test innings at Sabina Park, Kingston, West Indies captain Jason Holder has captured a total of 16 wickets – 5/44 & 6/59 vs Bangladesh in July 2018 and 5 for 77 vs India in the present Test.
  
• Holder has produced six five-wicket hauls in Tests.  His tally includes two against India – his first was 5 for 56 at Hyderabad in October 2018.
  
• Holder has set a West Indian record of accomplishing the double of 1,000 runs and 100 wickets in just 39 Tests – 1,848 runs (ave 33.00) and 100 wickets (27.34). The previous record stood in Garry Sobers' name.  He had taken 48 Tests to accomplish the double.
