South Africa ended day two at 36/3, trailing India by 565 runs in the second Test at Pune on Friday, 11 October.

Umesh Yadav removed openers Aiden Markram and Dean Elgar before Mohammed Shami dismissed Temba Bavuma to reduce South Africa to 33 for 3.

After dismissing Markram for a duck on his second of the ball of the innings, Yadav cleaned up Elgar for 6. Bavuma walked back to the hut after getting caught behind for 8.

Earlier, Virat Kohli smashed his 7th international Test double century before notching his career-best score as India declared their innings at 601 for five.

The Indian captain reached the three-figure mark earlier in the day, a few overs before the Lunch break. However, since then, the skipper has switched gears and raced to his 200 a few minutes into the final session of play.

Virat’s partner at the start of the day, Ajinkya Rahane, scored a half century before falling to Keshav Maharaj on 59 – the Proteas’ only reason for any celebration on a day that has been dominated by the hosts. The pair’s partnership was worth 178 runs.

Virat was then joined by Ravindra Jadeja. The duo had stitched a 225-run stand when Jadeja was caught out for 91. Kohli remained unbeaten on 254.

Virat’s Mega Record

Virat’s double century helped him eclipse Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag to become the cricketer with the most double tons in Indian cricket.

The Indian skipper now has 26 Test hundreds and 69 international tons (43 in ODIs).

On way to his double ton on day two of the second Test against South Africa, Kohli also equalled former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting by scoring the most number of centuries as Test captain. Both Kohli and Ponting now has a record 19 hundreds as a Test captain.

Kohli, who hit his overall 26th Test hundred on Friday, is joint second, while former South Africa captain Smith leads the list with 25 tons to his credit.

This is Kohli's first hundred of this year, having scored two fifties in the eight innings that he has played in 2019.

The Don’s Record Eclipsed

Earlier in the day, the Indian skipper had surpassed Australian batting legend Don Bradman’s record for the most 150 plus scores as captain in international cricket.

Kohli has crossed 150-run mark nine times as India skipper, one more than Bradman, who had achieved the feat eight times in his illustrious career.

Australia's Michael Clarke, Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene, West Indies' Brian Lara and South Afrca's Graeme Smith are joint third, having achieved 150 plus scores as captain seven times.
