After a successful tour to the Caribbean, where Team India blanked hosts West Indies in all three formats, the Virat Kohli-led side will look to inflict a similar damage on the visiting South African side.

India will play the opening game of their three-match T20I series against South Africa at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association’s stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday.

The tour of India also includes a three-match Test series that will be played after the T20Is.

Meanwhile, Quinton de Kock will be captaining South Africa for the first time in Twenty20 Internationals.

  • India have lost both their fixtures against South Africa in T20Is at home - by seven wickets at Dharamsala on 2 October 2015 and by six wickets at Cuttack on 5 October 2015.
  • Apart from South Africa's triumph over India, five other T20Is have produced results at Dharamsala. Bangladesh have won two while New Zealand, Oman and Netherlands have won T20I each.
  • Of the total six result oriented T20Is at this venue, four have been won by the teams batting first and two by teams while chasing.
  • Just two bowlers have bagged four wickets in a T20Is at this venue - 4 for 111 by Netherlands' Paul van Meekeran vs Ireland on 13 March 2016 and 4 for 15 by Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan vs Oman on 13 March 2016.

  • Two hundreds have been registered in T20Is involving India and South Africa - both for India - 106 off 66 balls by Rohit Sharma at Dharamsala on 2 October 2015 and 101 off 60 balls by Suresh Raina at Gros Islet on 2 May 2010.
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar's only five-wicket haul in his T20I career was recorded against South Africa - 5 for 24 at Johannesburg on 18 February 2018. This is the only instance of five wickets in T20Is involving the two countries.
  • In the Centurion T20I against South Africa on 21 February 2018, Yuzvendra Chahal had conceded 64 runs off his four overs without taking a wicket – the most runs conceded by an Indian bowler in a T20I.
  • Yuzvendra Chahal had conceded seven sixes in the aforesaid T20I to become the fifth bowler to concede seven sixes. He had joined Stuart Broad, Xavier Doherty, Barry McCarthy and Andrew Tye.

  • Only West Indian Johnson Charles has a better strike rate against India in this format - 239.39 during his innings of 79 off 33 balls at Lauderhill on 27 August 2016.
  • Klaasen had scored 41 runs off just twelve balls off Yuzvendra Chahal in the above match - the most by a batsman against an Indian bowler in a T20I.

  • Jean-Paul Duminy and Heinrich Klaasen, with seven sixes each, jointly hold a South African record for most sixes in an innings against India. Duminy had recorded the feat during his unbeaten 68 off 34 balls at Dharamsala on 2 October 2015 while Klaasen had registered the feat in his aforesaid innings of 69.
  • Duminy's strike rate of 200.00 in the aforesaid innings is the highest among the batsmen with 50-plus score in T20Is at Dharamsala.
  • Colin Ingram's career-best 78 off 50 balls at Johannesburg on 30 March 2012 is the highest individual innings for South Africa vs India in T20Is.
  • Jean-Paul Duminy's tally of sixteen sixes in ten matches is the highest in T20Is involving India and South Africa. For India, 13 sixes in twelve matches by Suresh Raina are the most.
