These were Gautam Gambhir’s words in his emotional video to announce his retirement on Tuesday, 4 December. Clearly, there was still some ink left – because the 37-year-old has marked the final match of his professional career with a century.
Gambhir scored 112 in Delhi’s first innings against Andhra Pradesh at his home ground, in what is the concluding chapter of a nearly two-decade long career.
The 2011 World Cup winner, resuming on his overnight score of 90 not out, added the 10 runs a more-than-decently-filled Feroz Shah Kotla crowd was hoping for – to lay a solid platform for his side.
Delhi began Day 3 of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group B tie on 190/1 in response to Andhra Pradesh’s 390, and Gambhir took little time in knocking off the eight runs eagerly awaited by the fans. He eventually finished his stay with 10 fours.
The final day of the game, on Sunday, 9 December, will be Gambhir’s final outing on the field as a professional cricketer.
