Today’s England-SA ODI Postponed After Player Tests COVID Positive

England’s first ODI in South Africa has been called off after a South African player tested positive for COVID0-19.

Just an hour before the toss of the ODI series-opener between England and South Africa, the match at Newlands has been called off after a member of the South African camp tested positive for COVID-19.

According to Cricket South Africa, the player tested positive in the scheduled test conducted on Thursday.

‘This decision results from a player from the Proteas team testing positive for COVID-19 after the teams’ last round of scheduled testing performed on Thursday ahead of the ODI series,’ said Cricket South Africa in a media release.

Players from both teams and their support staff will undergo a fresh round of tests on Friday and the series will continue depending on their outcome.

Cricket South Africa, meanwhile, has announced the rearranged schedule of the 3 match ODI series which will now start on Sunday.

The amended tour dates are as follows:

  • Sunday, December 6, 2020 - 1st ODI, Paarl (day match)
  • Monday, December 7, 2020 - 2nd ODI, Cape Town (day-night match)
  • Wednesday, December 9, 2020 - 3rd ODI, Cape Town (day-night match)
