Australia already travelled to India for the limited-overs series without their top three bowlers and after losing the series in the third ODI itself, the team’s bowling department has taken another hit.
Cricket Australia announced that spinner Ashton Agar will be returning home after fracturing his finger during the 5 wicket loss to India in Indore on Sunday.
Agar’s injury is expected to keep him out of contention for the start of the Ashes in November this year.
The left-arm bowler fractured the little finger on his right hand while trying to stop a boundary during India’s chase of Australia’s 293 in Indore. Though he got his finger strapped and did bowl the rest of his 10 over spell, Cricket Australia has decided to call him home for further assessment.
In an official statement, Australia’s team doctor Richard Saw said the 23-year-old may even need surgery.
Following the conclusion of the match he went for x-rays, which have confirmed a fracture of the finger. He will return home to Australia and consult a specialist with a possibility of surgery.Richard Saw, Team Doctor - Australia
Agar picked up a wicket each in the two games he played in the series before picking up the injury. Adam Zampa is most likely to replace him in the fourth ODI in Bengaluru on Thursday.
