Debutant Manju Rani (48kg) will be vying for her maiden gold medal at the World Women’s Boxing Championships as she takes on second-seeded Russian Ekaterina Paltceva in the final today.
Sixth-seeded Rani defeated Thailand's Chuthamat Raksat 4-1 on Saturday, and was the lone Indian to enter the final of the marquee tournament. Six-time champion (51kg) Mary Kom along with Jamuna Boro (54kg) and Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) had to settle for bronze medals after losing their respective semifinal bouts.
Haryana girl Manju has been in terrific form throughout the tournament and her biggest achievement so far has been an upset win over the top seed Kim Hyang of North Korea in the quarterfinals.
