India’s last medal in women’s wrestling at the 2018 Asian Games has come courtesy Divya Kakran who won the bronze in the 68 kilogram freestyle category.

Divya thrashed Chen Wenling of Chinese Taipei by technical superiority in the play-off for the bronze medal. A wrestler is declared winner by technical superiority when he takes a lead of 10 or more points.

The Delhi girl hardly broke a sweat, taking just one minute and 29 seconds in the first period to open up a 10-0 lead which gave her the win.

"I knew that gold and silver had gone out of reach, so I fought hard for whatever was available. I just went for it," she said.

The 20-year-old however said she wasn't satisfied just yet, “I have taken one tiny step up. If I hadn't won the medal, I would not have moved up at all. I don’t know yet what I could have done better but this is a start. I finished third today, tomorrow I could win silver and then eventually a gold could be mine.’

India's national women freestyle coach Kuldeep Malik said, "She is young and it was her first tournament of this level. She will get better."
